Our founder, Julio Acosta, is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in good standing with the State of Florida since 2005. He has over 22 years of experience in private and public accounting combined and over 16 years of Taxation. Julio holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and two Master’s degrees from Florida International University. One Master’s degree is in Accounting and one is in Taxation. Moreover, Julio is an avid reader, well-rounded entrepreneur, and marketing aficionado.
He began his career in accounting with the Hilton hotel chain as a Night Shift Auditor. He quickly ascended to Controller for one of their busiest hotels in Miami Beach. Seeking to expand his knowledge and experience in the private sector, he joined an International Architectural firm as an Accounting Manager. This role entailed accurate consolidation and reporting of accounts for multiple Caribbean Islands subsidiaries. He later joined The Beacon Council for Miami-Dade as a Senior Accountant. Under this role, he restructured time-consuming payroll and accounts payable procedures. This helped achieve much-needed efficiencies and reliability.
Thirsty for more, Julio took the plunge into the public accounting sector. He joined Berkowitz Dick Pollack and Brant CPAs as a Financial Auditor. Shortly after, he attained the position of Senior Financial Auditor at Ernst and Young, one of the “Big Four” public accounting firms in the world. While working with these firms, Julio gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in financial reporting and auditing. Much of this experience involved working with large-scale operations and publicly traded healthcare, banking, logistics, and aviation organizations.
Opportunity knocked at Julio’s door to return to the private sector as the Controller of the Commercial Division of KW Property Management & Consulting company. The division was in its infant stages but rapidly flourished with Julio’s input. For Julio, it was an exciting opportunity to build a department from the ground up. He would establish the necessary procedures to ensure its healthy growth and success. Once achieved, Julio’s sight was placed on an even larger feat. He wanted to own his very own firm. In 2006, he did just that by acquiring a boutique firm specializing in Tax Preparation and Planning. Julio would transform and grow his firm into My CPA, PA (formerly Acosta Tax and Advisory), as their advisor and “back-office” support for tax, accounting, and financial planning functions. My CPA, PA services clients in the counties of Broward, Miami Dade, West Palm Beach, and Pinellas County.
